In the midst of 16 days of activism, Buffalo City came alive on Sunday, 7 December 2025, as residents, dignitaries and supporters gathered to officially welcome Miss South Africa 2025, Qhawekazi Mazaleni, back home after her national triumph.
The highly anticipated homecoming celebration took place at Leighandre Baby Lee Jegels Recreational Park in Quigney, drawing a vibrant crowd eager to celebrate one of the city’s brightest stars. She also a role model to many young girls here at the Eastern Cape and some highlighted that with the 2nd pageant to be from Eastern Cape indeed the future for young girls in the province is indeed bright
The atmosphere was filled with pride and excitement as the newly crowned queen arrived, warmly embraced by her community. With her radiant smile and grace, Qhawekazi expressed heartfelt appreciation to the people of Buffalo City for their unwavering support throughout her journey. She emphasized that her victory belongs not only to her, but to every young person who dares to dream beyond their circumstances.
The event was supported by the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality, in partnership with the Motsepe Foundation, highlighting the city’s commitment to uplifting local talent and celebrating excellence. Community leaders congratulated Qhawekazi for representing the Eastern Cape with dignity, intelligence and elegance, calling her an inspiration to young women across the province.
The two-hour celebration, held from 14:00 to 16:00, featured musical performances, messages of support, and an opportunity for residents to cheer on their queen. Though the event was not streamed online, it successfully created a moment of unity and pride for all who attended.
Qhawekazi’s homecoming marked not only a joyous return but also the beginning of her journey as Miss South Africa, a role she promised to use as to drive empowerment, educate and community upliftment.
Buffalo City continues to celebrate her remarkable achievement, proudly declaring: Qhawekazi is our Queen.
